Chrysler PT Cruiser driver’s wild hooning caught on camera

A Chrysler PT Cruiser is an unlikely choice for a hoon, but perhaps this reckless driver wasn’t in a position to be picky.

US news outlet ABC13 has published footage, taken by Elki Soy, of one of the retro-styled wagons being driven recklessly in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

In it, we can see the PT Cruiser driver engaging in a number of dangerous acts, including reversing at high speed and tapping another vehicle.

The driver is then seen drifting around a corner, doing a 180, drifting around the same corner again, and then attempting another 180, before subsequently jumping a kerb.

All this takes place in broad daylight with plenty of traffic in the area.

ABC13 subsequently reported the vehicle was later located in a shopping centre carpark.

The driver, Shane Mayfield, turned himself into authorities. He was charged with a litany of offences, including misdemeanour aggressive driving and driving a wrong way down a one-way road.

The vehicle was allegedly unregistered and Mr Mayfield’s driver’s licence had been revoked prior to the incident.

He was released on a US$10,000 (~A$15,800) bond.

The PT Cruiser, based on the Neon sedan, was produced from 2000 to 2010 and was sold in Australia during the same period.

While there were performance versions available like the GT – packing a 172kW/332Nm turbocharged four-cylinder engine – Mr Mayfield’s vehicle doesn’t appear to be one of them, making this an even more unlikely choice for hooning.
